Only ten seconds into the reigning champions Malmö FF's Allsvenskan home premiere against Elfsborg, the guests were awarded a penalty after center-back Colin Rösler unfortunately kicked down Taylor Silverholt.
Simon Hedlund stepped forward, but Malmö goalkeeper Ricardo Friedrich responded with a fine save on a not-so-well-placed penalty.
50th Allsvenskan goal
Hedlund would take revenge on himself, but before that, MFF took over the game.
It gives energy to the whole team, says Malmö's team captain Anders Christiansen to Max about the penalty save.
We're a bit shaky for five-ten minutes, but from there we have total control of the match, he continues.
The payoff came first after the break. Only 73 seconds into the second half, Christiansen scored 1–0 after picking up a loose ball in the penalty area. The goal was the Dane's 50th full hit in Allsvenskan.
In that stage of the match, everything indicated that MFF would go for their second straight win after winning against Djurgården away in the premiere (1–0).
Then star newcomer Arnór Sigurdsson – after five minutes on the pitch – made a fatal mistake by passing the ball to Hedlund, and the Elfsborg player could score the equalizer from over 20 meters in the 71st minute.
It's a mistake I shouldn't make. I get a bad touch. That shouldn't happen, says Sigurdsson to Max.
Full pot
The problem for the Borås team?
Even Sigurdsson would take revenge on himself.
In the 78th minute, the Icelander scored his first Allsvenskan goal for MFF, making it 2–1. This after fine preparatory work from Taha Ali, who was substituted in the same minute as Sigurdsson.
It was very nice when the ball rolled in, says the Icelander.
It became the match's final goal.
We give away a goal, but we win fairly. We were the best team on the pitch today, says Christiansen.
MFF thus stands on full pot after two Allsvenskan rounds – gold challenger Elfsborg has only one point, 2–2 in the premiere at home against Mjällby.
