"It is remarkable that the Speaker wants to hold a vote on someone who has not explored the possibility of becoming prime minister, and whose government would rely on a base that several parties do not want to be part of. At this stage, the reasonable thing would have been to let Ulf Kristersson explore the possibility of forming a right-wing government," Andersson writes in a comment.
Speaker Andreas Norlén says the vote will take place on Tuesday and that he agrees with Thand Ringqvist.
C: Other ways forward
However, she believes the Speaker should have proposed Magdalena Andersson as prime minister or given Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson the opportunity to explore the possibility of forming a government.
"After our conversations, the Speaker has assessed that the next step in forming a government is to propose me as prime minister. At the same time, I have said that there are other possible ways forward," she says in a comment.
Thand Ringqvist will be put to a vote as prime ministerial candidate for a "centrist government" comprising MP, S, C, L and KD.
However, both KD and L are expected to vote no.
"The conditions for such a government do not exist, and for the Christian Democrats, Ulf Kristersson remains our prime ministerial candidate," KD leader Ebba Busch writes on X.
Surprise within L
Within the Liberal Party, the Speaker's announcement was met with surprise, according to information provided to TT. L has not agreed to be presented as part of a centrist alternative, a source says. The party has consistently emphasized that it will never support Magdalena Andersson.
However, M leader Ulf Kristersson believes it is natural to vote on a centre-right government.
"The failure is entirely Magdalena Andersson's responsibility. She chose to keep quiet for four years and refrain from making preparations. Now it's backfiring," Ulf Kristersson says.
