The eco-friendly hotel in Western Sweden lured with a combination of forest and luxury. 10,000 kronor per night for the experience. But in a reportage in Dagens Nyheter, former employees reveal that it was all just a show for the galleries:
It has not been as sustainable as they have presented publicly. There is a downside to this place that has been hidden away, says an employee to the newspaper.
According to DN, the owners, among other things, have been dumping dishwater and wastewater directly into nature.
This is an environmental crime, says Daniel Helsing, building and environmental chief of the municipality to the newspaper, after being informed about the various irregularities.
The sewage problems, however, were not limited to what was dumped out, but also what was left behind. There are now 158 barrels full of human waste on the property. The hotel went bankrupt last month, the owners have millions in debt. But they already have a new project – an eco-hotel in Guatemala. To Dagens Nyheter, one of the owners says that "The Tax Authority is a narcissistic entity" and "society is crazy":
I am the poorest man you have ever spoken to. We rent this hotel for approximately 9,000 kronor per month. It is our home, and it is here we are trying to find a new foundation to stand on.
