Since the law was expanded in July last year, the number of contact bans issued has increased sharply, including bans issued in cases not connected to a criminal investigation. But too few, just a few percent, receive ankle shackles when a contact ban is imposed, according to the Liberals. Now the party is proposing that ankle shackles should be the default when a contact ban is imposed.
"It is not women's lives that should be limited when men threaten, control and persecute," says Minister for Equality Nina Larsson (L) in a comment.
At the same time, electronic surveillance must be followed up more consistently, according to the party.
"Anyone who violates a contact ban should face tangible consequences," says Martin Melin, legal policy spokesperson for the Liberals.
