"The Liberals have a clear message today: LAS must be changed so that paedophiles in schools can be fired. For the safety of all children," says party leader Simona Mohamsson in a written comment.
The Liberals want to amend the Employment Protection Act (LAS) so that criminality will be objective grounds for dismissal in more cases than today. The party also wants to introduce ongoing register checks for activities that target children, the elderly and people with disabilities.
"Today, it is not possible for a principal to check whether an employee has been convicted of, for example, sexual offences against children, and if the information were to reach the principal, the possibility of terminating the employee is limited," the party writes in a statement.
