In this way, teacher shortages in parts of the school system can be counteracted, the proportion of qualified teachers can increase and experience can be rewarded, according to the Liberals.

"We need more skilled teachers who choose to remain in the profession if we are to turn around school results," says Minister for Upper Secondary Education, Higher Education and Research Lotta Edholm in a press release.

The bonus would include licensed teachers and preschool teachers over the age of 60. The Liberals believe that the change could be a plus for the public sector, in terms of tax revenue and deferred pension payments.

Recently, the Liberals proposed a general pay increase for teachers of 10,000 kronor per month.
