The Liberals' approach is that we need to look broadly: both at those who have a deportation decision and are in Sweden but have not yet been expelled, and at those who have recently been expelled, to check what legal possibilities there are to address the matter and ensure their decisions are reconsidered, Liberal leader Simona Mohamsson tells the media in connection with a press conference on Tuesday.

The issue of so-called teenage deportations has been brought up again since the Tidö parties, one by one, have opened the way for young people who have already received deportation orders to remain in Sweden. In March, deportations were paused pending new legislation, but this did not apply to decisions that had become legally binding.

Work “in progress”

Simona Mohamsson says that work to find a legal solution for this group is ongoing and will be presented "shortly".

How far back in time this solution will extend is unclear.

It is quite unreasonable to look at an expulsion decision from 2015, but it doesn't have to go back that far. You need to look at what is possible based on legislation, says Mohamsson.

No amnesty

She does not answer details such as on what basis the young people will be allowed to stay and for how long. But the Liberal leader does not want to see any general amnesty.

"The law is what's important so that we don't end up with more amnesties. We've seen what amnesties have done before," she says.

Teenage deportations involve young people whose parents have the right to be in Sweden, but who themselves do not meet the requirements for their own residence permit when they turn 18.
