Lebanon's military has seized 64 million tablets of the narcotic preparation captagon. The raid took place in the eastern part of the country, and was made in connection with one of the largest efforts against the extensive narcotics production.
Lebanon is being pressured by several other countries, mainly in the region, to get to grips with the production and smuggling of captagon, which is an amphetamine-like preparation.
The raid was carried out against criminal drug cartels in the Bekaa Valley, according to Lebanon's military.
"After monitoring drug gangs in the Bekaa Valley, a group from the intelligence service, with the support of a military unit, struck against the town of Boudai", says the military in a statement.
The Baalbek region is located near Syria, and the illegal trade is believed to have been one of the former Bashar al-Assad regime's main sources of income.
The military also seized "79 barrels of chemical preparations and a number of machines" that were intended for the production of the drug captagon.
