A man who was detained by Russian authorities for organizing trips for LGBTQ groups has died in custody. Andrej Kotov, who was the head of the travel agency, was accused of organizing "extremist activities" that violate "traditional values".
Human rights group OVD-info reports that Kotov was mistreated after being arrested last month. According to Kotov's lawyer and the state-controlled news agency Ria Novosti, Kotov committed suicide in custody.
Kotov was, according to Russian media, imprisoned awaiting trial.
LGBTQ movements have been included in the Russian definition of "banned extremist groups" since earlier this year.
