The US tried to get Danish colleagues in Greenland to hand over information about military facilities, ports and air bases on the island in January last year, the newspaper reports, citing heavily redacted documents from the Danish Ministry of Defence.
The contact is said to have taken place outside normal channels such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence and the Danish military.
An American military official reportedly asked the Danish military command in Greenland, Arctic Command, for information about Greenlandic infrastructure every six days.
It is unclear whether and to what extent information was actually passed on to the United States.
The US embassy in Copenhagen tells Berlingske that it "should come as no surprise" that the US is engaging in dialogue with partners in Greenland and Denmark given the common security interest in the Arctic.
