Thousands of people are marching through the Brazilian city of Belém on Saturday morning, local time, demanding real solutions to global warming.
The march is expected to stop a few blocks from the conference rooms where the world's countries have gathered for the COP30 climate summit, where they will try to agree on how to reduce emissions.
The giant demonstration is taking place in stark contrast to the previous three years' meeting places, which have been in oil-producing and authoritarian Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, where activists have been afraid of arrest.
This year's host country, Brazil, has, however, embraced civil society and urged groups to make their voices heard.
COP30, which began on Monday and has now reached half-time, has also been disrupted in parts by protests.
On Tuesday, activists broke into the facility and clashed with security personnel. On Friday, a group blocked the main entrance for two hours in a peaceful demonstration.
