Black Friday is just around the corner. Now seven large companies risk fines if they do not tighten up and provide the correct price information in their offers, the Swedish Consumer Agency announces.

This spring , the Consumer Ombudsman (KO) threatened ten well-known companies with fines totaling SEK 22 million for inadequate price information. The companies had not behaved during the Black Friday sale period, despite earlier warnings.

Now seven other companies are being sued by KO: clothing giant H&M, gadget chain Kjell & Co, online bookstore Bokus, poster company Desenio, furniture retailer Home Furnishing Nordic, technology chain Inet and white goods retailer Tretti.

If they do not improve their price information, they risk having to pay a fine. The total fine amounts to 8.6 million SEK.

By law, a company selling an item at a reduced price must state the previous lowest price the item was sold for in the last 30 days prior to the price reduction. Discounts in percentage or kronor must be based on the previous lowest price, not any other price.
