At the latest on Monday, a verdict is expected from Spain's Sports Tribunal (CSD) regarding whether Barcelona has the right to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, who joined the football club last autumn.
The big club was allowed to register the players for a new temporary period in January, pending the Sports Tribunal's verdict. According to La Liga, they will not be permanently registered due to the financial fair play rules.
At the turn of the year, Barcelona announced that they had reached an agreement to sell VIP boxes at their home arena Camp Nou, worth 100 million euros. This would give them financial leeway to register new players.
An unnamed auditor included this agreement in the accounts at the turn of the year. However, the club's new auditor has removed the post for the first quarter of this year.
"No amounts from the VIP box agreement have been booked, contrary to what the club and the auditor previously stated," La Liga writes in a statement.
La Liga therefore believes that Barcelona does not have the right to register Olmo and Victor according to the rules governing club finances.
The players were registered on a short-term basis last autumn when Barcelona used a loophole in the rules after an injury to defender Andreas Christensen. Olmo has played 13 times since then and scored two goals. Victor has made five substitute appearances.
