Ulf Kristersson refers to an investigation that looks at family immigration in general and where the issue of an exception mechanism will also be discussed.

We will come back. We are looking at some cases that I understand are painful, but at the same time, I think one should be careful about drawing too far-reaching conclusions from individual cases.

S wants a temporary stop

The issue of young people who grew up in Sweden and are threatened with deportation when they turn 18 has become a political hot potato. The deportations can happen because the possibility of exceptions for particularly painful cases – an exception mechanism – has been abolished in connection with extensions of residence permits.

Kristersson's coalition partner, the Liberals, want to urgently introduce an exception mechanism, while the Social Democrats want to see a temporary halt to deportations until the legal situation is clarified. MP, V and C want to change the law.

Åkesson: People get into trouble

SD's party leader, Jimmie Åkesson, is in turn open to changing the regulations in some way but does not want to introduce an exception mechanism.

The problem is that some people are getting into trouble because the rather broad “particularly distressing circumstances” have been abolished. I am absolutely open to discussing whether we can get it right in some way.

If provisions for particularly painful circumstances were to be reintroduced, it would have unforeseeable consequences, according to Åkesson.

And that's not relevant.
