When EU leaders meet in Copenhagen today, one of the main issues is how Europe can arm itself faster.
The drone intrusions in recent times have raised the issue of drones and anti-drone defense on the EU's agenda. In particular, it is the idea of a "drone wall" that has received attention.
Suddenly, everyone wants to talk about drones, says Kristersson.
According to him, the acute need to develop drone capabilities and drone defense is nothing new for Sweden.
We have seen it for a fairly long time. We have followed the development extremely closely, says Kristersson.
I think we have shown that we (Sweden) have the ability to detect them and take them down.
The Prime Minister also points out that Sweden has lent out an anti-drone unit to protect the summit in Copenhagen
Kristersson emphasizes that the "drone wall" is not about the EU suddenly coming up with something that will guarantee all of Europe a drone capacity.
The drone wall is a way of expressing that we must speed up the ability to produce both drones and anti-drone capacity.
From the EU Commission's side, it has been stated that it may take a year to establish a "drone wall". The German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius believes rather in three to four years.
We have shown that it is possible to develop an advanced drone defense in under a year, says Kristersson about Sweden's drone defense.
The Prime Minister agrees that drone defense and cooperation on drone production are extremely important. He emphasizes at the same time that the discussions in the EU are not about the EU taking over tasks from NATO or national defense.
