Kosovo held elections on Sunday for the third time in 18 months.
According to exit polls presented by three separate media companies, Kurti's party was receiving around 40 percent of the vote.
This would mean that the Vetevendosje party would lose ten percentage points compared to the December election.
Ahead of the election, there was growing frustration over the political stalemate in Kosovo.
"I expect the parties to come to their senses and work for Kosovo, instead of wasting time on power plays by holding one new election after another," said retired teacher Gezim Selimi after voting in the capital Pristina on Sunday.
After winning the election in February last year, Prime Minister Albin Kurti failed to gather a majority to form a government. The political crisis led to new elections in December, which also failed to break the deadlock.
University lecturer Safet Gerxhaliu did not believe that Sunday's elections would change the situation in the country. According to him, Kosovo is in the biggest crisis since independence in 2008.
The institutions are on the verge of collapse.
