The announcement that an additional 6,000 Kiruna residents must move has given a boost to housing prices – above all in the demolition area, reports SVT News Norrbotten.

According to SVT, prices have risen over the past two weeks after the announcement that LKAB will redeem an additional 850 villas in the municipality.

We see a tendency that more people are bidding on the housing market. The final prices of certain objects, especially within the demolition area, have taken off, says real estate agent Peter Barsk to SVT News Norrbotten and adds that prices are also rising outside the demolition area.

The mining company offers market value and an additional 25 percent supplement for the homes that are redeemed. Even before the announcement from LKAB, villa prices had begun to rise in Kiruna and are according to Swedish real estate statistics up by just over 18 percent over the past three months.
