The Christian Democrats want to see a producer tax on added sugar in drinks. The aim is to reduce the problem of obesity among the population.

The proposal is part of the party's updated healthcare program that the KD national council hammered out on Saturday. The proposal was passed by a narrow margin, 132 votes to 129.

Among other things, there was a concern that the tax would only lead to higher prices for soft drinks. However, Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) pointed out that in the UK such a tax has led to a reduction in the number of sugar cubes in a Seven Up.

The Swedish Parliament also decided that KD should work to introduce a mandatory age limit of 15 for energy drinks. Today, it is up to the various retail chains.
