The party's national congress decided this on Saturday.
The party board wanted the motion to say no to “chat control” to be rejected. Behind the motion were KD’s EU parliamentarian Alice Teodorescu Måwe and party board member Nike Örbrink. They warned that “chat control” would mean the largest surveillance of residents in the EU ever.
The party board considered that although the monitoring method is not perfect, the European Commission's proposal is still a well-balanced structure for effectively combating sexual abuse of children.
The party board's line clearly lost.
The European Commission's proposal is currently stuck in the EU's decision-making process because Germany has not said yes. This means that there is not a sufficient majority for the proposal.
