"For your own safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately and move at least 1,000 meters away from towns and villages," the Israeli military said in a post on X, which also listed the names of twelve villages.
Shortly afterwards, the Israeli army announced that it was attacking infrastructure belonging to the Iran-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah in several areas in Lebanon.
One of the attacks targeted the town of Zellaya in the eastern Bekaa Valley, killing four people, according to Lebanon's health ministry. Local media reported the mayor's house was targeted, killing two women and an elderly man.
Formally, a ceasefire is in place between Israel and Lebanon, but Israel is still carrying out operations against Hezbollah.
Both Israel and Hezbollah have accused each other of violating the ceasefire in recent weeks.
Hezbollah attacked Israel with rockets on March 2 in retaliation for the US-Israeli attack on Iran that triggered the war there. Israel responded with extensive airstrikes and a ground offensive in southern Lebanon. More than 2,600 people have since been killed in Lebanon in Israeli attacks and hundreds of thousands have been forced to flee their homes.
