The Israeli military had urged the evacuation of the port before the attack.
According to Israel, the port is used by the Houthi rebels to "transfer weapons from the Iranian regime, with the aim of carrying out attacks on the state of Israel and its allies".
A spokesperson for the Houthis states in social media that the rebels' air defense "confronts the Israeli aircraft".
The Houthi government, which controls large parts of Yemen, has joined the Palestinian Hamas side in the Gaza war and sends, among other things, rockets and drones against Israel.
In response, Israel has continuously attacked infrastructure such as ports, power plants and the international airport in the capital Sanaa. Israel has recently escalated and in August, the Houthi prime minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and other leaders were killed.
Al-Hudayda is the war-torn Yemen's most important port.
