Most of those treated in hospital after the bus accident on the E45 have been discharged. Eight people still remain in hospital, according to Region Västerbotten.

The region received a total of 56 injured people from the accident that occurred on Saturday morning between Storuman and Vilhelmina. Ten people were taken to hospital by ambulance, including one person who was trapped.

On Sunday morning, 23 people were still being treated in hospital, but 15 people were discharged during the day. Three people are now being treated in a hospital in Lycksele and five in a hospital in Umeå. None of them have life-threatening injuries.

The police have seized the bus and during the day the passengers will get their belongings back. On Monday a technical examination of the bus will be carried out. The accident is being investigated as negligence in traffic, but no one is currently suspected of a crime.

The driver is being questioned as a witness, says Elin Andersson, press spokesperson for the police.

The bus was chartered by the Finnish company Saaga Travel, which organizes trips in northern Finland, Sweden and Norway. Universitetsavisa reports that the buses were in turn rented to the student organization Erasmus Student Network (ESN) at the Technical University of Norway (NTNU). According to the newspaper, exchange students from several countries were on board.
