A man in his 70s has been taken to hospital after an explosion in an apartment building in Norrköping. The explosion was clearly powerful, says Martina Gradian, press spokesperson for the police.

The incident occurred just before 5 a.m. Sunday morning. A man told police he was in pain and was taken to the hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The person needs to be checked, but I don't currently perceive the injury as life-threatening, says Martina Gradian.

A witness tells Aftonbladet that the floor and walls shook.

"It felt like an earthquake," says another witness.

Both the building and nearby cars were damaged in the explosion, which reportedly occurred on the ground floor. Several windows were shattered and there is a lot of broken glass at the scene.

The gate and several windows have been damaged, and there is damage to both the first and second floors.

The police have not found anything in the house that is considered dangerous to the public, but a school has opened for accommodation in the apartments near the explosion site.

We will help people be moved to the school as several windows are broken and people need a warm and safe place to stay, says Martina Gradian.

No one has been arrested for the crime, which is being investigated as public destruction. The National Bomb Squad has been called in and the police have cordoned off the scene and are questioning witnesses. They will also review camera footage from the area.

We believe that someone or a few people deliberately and intentionally caused the explosion.

The police urge the public to call 114 14 if they have made any observations.
