”In accordance with a decision from the political sphere and after a series of significant raids in response to Hamas violations, the IDF has resumed the maintenance of the ceasefire”, says the Israeli military in a statement late on Sunday evening.
The statement follows an earlier announcement that Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted the Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir's recommendation for a complete pause in humanitarian aid.
The rapid development of events occurs in a situation where both Hamas and Israel have accused each other of violating the ceasefire on Sunday. Shortly before the decision to stop humanitarian aid, the Israeli military launched a series of attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Grenade Attack
Two Israeli soldiers were killed in a grenade attack in Rafah on Sunday morning, reports the Israeli media with reference to the military. Three more soldiers are reported to have been injured after being shot at by snipers.
The incidents are said to have occurred in an area still controlled by the Israeli military in accordance with the initial phase of the ceasefire agreement. Israel also responded with several air attacks in the area.
Hamas Denies
Hamas has denied the allegations and claims to have nothing to do with the events.
”We are committed to maintaining the ceasefire in all parts of the Gaza Strip. We have no information about incidents or clashes in the Rafah area, which is under the control of the occupiers”, it says in a statement, reports the Times of Israel.
According to the Hamas-controlled civil defense in Gaza, at least 33 people have been killed since midnight.
