According to the latest tally from Lebanese health authorities, 1,422 people have been killed since the conflict escalated and Israel launched attacks on the country.

The dead include 126 children and 54 health workers. Another 4,294 people have been injured in the Israeli attacks that have been ongoing daily since March 2.

Loud explosions were reported from the capital Beirut. Local media are reporting attacks on Beirut's southern suburbs, where the Islamist group Hezbollah has traditionally had strongholds.

Upcoming raids

Israel's attacks are aimed at "Hezbollah infrastructure," the Israeli military announced on Saturday.

In the evening, residents of eastern Lebanon, mainly near the Masnaa border crossing with Syria, were told to leave the area immediately as attacks were expected.

One Israeli soldier was killed and another was seriously injured by gunfire from a fellow Israeli soldier, according to a statement from the military.

The incident on Saturday occurred when a group of commandos were arresting a person suspected of having links to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. One of the soldiers allegedly mistook the detainee for someone trying to escape, then began shooting and accidentally hit his comrades, according to an initial investigation, The Times of Israel reports.

The arrested person could be brought alive to Israel for interrogation.

The United States urges citizens

The US Embassy in Lebanon has told all US citizens to leave the country immediately. The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised against all travel to Lebanon since March 9 this year and urges Swedes to leave the country.

On Saturday afternoon, there were reports of new attacks on the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon. Three buildings were bombed after evacuation orders were issued, according to Lebanon's state news agency NNA.

An AFP reporter on the scene said an eleven-story building in the northeastern part of Tyre was completely destroyed; rubble buried a nearby gas station.

Large parts of a five-story building near the city center were also completely destroyed.
