Alexander Isak got a touch on the ball and sealed 2–1 as early as the 38th minute of the match.
Home team's Radu Dragusin directed a pass from the visitors' Jacob Murphy into his own goal, but Isak got there with his foot and scored his 13th goal of the season in the Premier League and his ninth during the scoring streak.
It was a small touch, the ball would have gone in anyway, I think, says Isak in Prime Video's broadcast.
The new year started just as well as the last one ended.
"A positive thing"
When Alexander Isak scored a goal for the sixth match in a row on December 30 against Manchester United, SVT reported that it was a Swedish record for the Premier League.
Previously, Fredrik Ljungberg had scored goals in five matches in a row for Arsenal in 2002.
Even in Newcastle, his scoring streak is unusual. Alexander Isak is the third player in the club to manage to score goals in seven matches in a row after goal machine Alan Shearer and Joe Willock.
I'm really happy, I'm not thinking about breaking records, but it's a positive thing, he says.
Bergvall in the hot seat
Both Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall started for Tottenham. For Bergvall, it was his second start in the Premier League, and he was involved in the build-up to the home team's leading goal through Dominic Solanke in the fourth minute.
The lead did not last long, however. Two minutes later, Anthony Gordon equalized. The Tottenham players wanted the goal disallowed as Bergvall's passing attempt hit Newcastle's Joelinton's hand a few moments before the shot.
But the protests did not help.
Alexander Isak had a good opportunity, but directed the ball just outside, before he found the right one.
Tottenham, 11th in the table, has poor form and has only won one of their last eight matches.
Newcastle, on the other hand, took their fifth consecutive win and remains in fifth place.
