The Security Council voted to not extend the pause concerning sanctions against Iran for the country's nuclear energy program on Friday. The vote means that previously decided sanctions against the country will be reintroduced on September 28, as long as Iran does not manage to persuade the member countries to back down next week.
"Despite the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' cooperation with the IAEA and the presentation of plans to solve the problem, the actions of the European countries will mean that the cooperation with the organization will be interrupted", said Iran's highest security authority in a statement.
After the twelve-day war with Israel in June, Iran cut ties with the UN's atomic energy organization IAEA, but has since said that cooperation will be resumed – but without providing sufficient guarantees according to Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.
According to Tehran, the actions of the European countries undermine months of cooperation with the IAEA aimed at resuming monitoring and compliance with international rules.
