Germany, the United Kingdom and France want to resume the nuclear energy talks with Iran and the USA. In Teheran the interest is lukewarm.

We see, in all honesty, no reason to negotiate with them, says Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi according to the news agency AFP.

On Friday, the so-called E3 countries Germany, the United Kingdom and France announced in a joint statement that they are "firmly determined" to resume negotiations with the aim of "reaching a comprehensive, long-lasting and verifiable agreement that ensures Iran never acquires nuclear weapons".

The previous agreement was that Iran would limit its nuclear program and refrain from acquiring nuclear weapons in exchange for the lifting of certain sanctions against the country. The agreement was revoked after US President Donald Trump left it in 2018.

In late September, comprehensive UN sanctions against Iran were reintroduced following demands from the E3 countries – which, however, emphasized that the reintroduction "is not the end of diplomacy".

The move was condemned by Iran, which promised a "powerful response".
