Last summer, the World Cup organizers in Seattle decided that one of their matches would be a Pride match. After the draw on Friday, it is clear that the match will be between Iran and Egypt – two countries where homosexuality is banned, writes the New York Post.

“The Pride Match was created to celebrate and raise awareness for Pride events in Seattle and across the country and was planned well in advance,” a spokesperson for the event told Outsports.

The match will be played on June 26th and coincides with the city's Pride weekend.

The local organizing committee in Seattle points out on its website that FIFA (International Football Association Board) has nothing to do with the Pride match, but that it is the local organizer who is behind it.

When the World Cup was played in Qatar in 2022, where homosexuality is also banned, Denmark, Germany and England, among others, wanted to play with the "One Love" armband - as a tribute to the LGBTQI movement - but FIFA banned it.

Seattle is hosting six matches during the Men's World Cup.
