When VAT was halved, food prices fell by 5.5 percent, which is in line with what the lower VAT should mean, according to the report now being submitted to the government.

The lower prices have since persisted, according to both authorities.

The results are consistent with previous measurements by Statistics Sweden and the industry, among others.

The price decline applies to all food groups, although it varies slightly. Oils, fats and non-alcoholic beverages have fallen the most in price, while the decrease was somewhat smaller for meat, vegetables and sweets.
