"There are 100 individuals who have had their lives shortened because they did not receive care at the right level of care, by staff with the right competence. These are unnecessary deaths that could have been avoided in a properly dimensioned healthcare system", she writes and points to a large number of unreported cases.
Karlsson demands, together with other hospital doctors, a zero vision of deaths due to lack of hospital beds and a cross-party national healthcare agreement. A functioning healthcare system is a national concern from both a citizen and preparedness perspective, according to Karlsson.
"Therefore, it should not be decided at the regional level."
Karlsson believes that competence supply, working conditions, and career opportunities within the core healthcare activities are key issues that need to be addressed.
Furthermore, the hospital doctors want transparency and a patient safety culture where healthcare injuries and deaths are reported, analyzed, and prevented, as well as independent chief physicians.
