Ingebrigtsen, who met with the media on Saturday, has not competed since he won double World Championship gold indoors, on 1,500 and 3,000 meters, in Nanjing, China, in March. Previously, he had won European Championship gold indoors on both distances in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
The soon-to-be 25-year-old Norwegian running star, on the other hand, has not competed in almost half a year ahead of the attempts on the men's 1,500 meters. Later during the World Championship, he plans to run 5,000.
I am excited. More than that, I do not know, he says about his own form.
Ingebrigtsen is the reigning world champion on 5,000 meters after the gold in Budapest two years ago. He has not yet taken any World Championship gold outdoors on 1,500 but has instead two consecutive World Championship silvers from 2023 and 2022 and an Olympic Games gold from 2021.
Ingebrigtsen will meet, among others, Samuel Pihlström in the fourth trial heat on 1,500 meters, which starts at 02.27 at night towards Sunday Swedish time.
