While many of the world's central banks, such as the US Federal Reserve and Norges Bank, have chosen to wait and see on interest rate increases, Indonesia's central bank is moving in a different direction and at breakneck speed.

After a surprise hike on May 20 - the first in two years - and another one last week, it has happened again. The 25 basis point hike means the key rate is now at 5.75 percent. The hawkish approach is due to the country's currency having weakened sharply recently.

In addition, Indonesia's consumer prices have skyrocketed as a consequence of developments in the Middle East.
