In an interview with the news site Politico Europe, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said things are not as bad for Europe as they sound.
Among other things, she referred to a ranking in The Economist that placed seven EU countries in itstop ten list of last year's most developed economies. She compared that to how it sounds in the U.S., where she said that "marginal efforts" can be presented as great deeds.
"But in Europe you do something amazing and then say, ‘That wasn’t so bad.’ In this world, you have to brag a little, exude confidence," Georgieva said.
Portugal was ranked highest by The Economist, ahead of Ireland. Spain, the Czech Republic, Greece, Slovenia and Poland also landed in the top ten.
