The function, called "cloud processing", is used by Meta, which owns Facebook, to suggest editing of users' images.

When creating a story on Facebook, a window pops up and asks if you want to activate cloud processing. If you accept, Meta can in practice upload the entire camera roll, reports the Danish news site Input.

"Easy to miss"

Peter Mackhé, media expert at Sveriges annonsörer, sees both pros and cons with the new feature.

The advantage is that you have a choice, if you easily want to access your images when you are on social media, he says.

But it's not always clear what you are saying yes to.

The function appeared in my flow a few days ago, I was going to say yes or no, but it didn't really say what, says Peter Mackhé and continues:

It's easy to miss what you accept and it's also easier to accept than to unaccept.

A test

Additionally, Meta makes new updates to its terms at regular intervals. Currently, Meta says the function is a test and that it is not used to, for example, train the company's AI, but to "make it easier for people to share selected content from a person's camera roll."

What's problematic is that they do it one way today, but can suddenly change their terms. You have to keep track of their changes yourself, says Peter Mackhé.

Fact: How to protect your images on your mobile

To avoid having your images uploaded to a cloud, you need to decline "cloud processing".

You can also regret a previous consent. This must be done on the Facebook app on a mobile device by going to "settings" which is located under "Settings and privacy."

There, you choose to turn off "cloud processing" or "access to camera rolls".
