National team teammate Julia Henriksson was first out on the distance. The heat and humidity were noticeable for her as well, but nothing that stopped the 25-year-old from reaching the semifinal in the World Championship in athletics in Japan.
Worse was it for Nora Lindahl.
Asthma and a tape measure ruined it for the 21-year-old.
It was tough to breathe with asthma in this weather, she says.
Heat I think is lovely to run in, but ... It felt like I had not taken any asthma spray, but I had done it.
According to Lindahl, it was the humidity, which was close to 80 percent, that caused the problems.
Definitely. The more fluid there is, the more my airways swell. It becomes a bit screaming to breathe.
The tape measure?
It was basically about getting the starting block set right, but now she was not allowed to bring the tape measure onto the track. The consequence was that she was forced to a different start than what she is used to.
It was a bit too close. Now I had one knee up, which I do not usually have, she says.
Julia Henriksson runs the semifinal on Thursday.
The race was not completely optimal. I opened pretty well, but out of the curve, I felt that it was a bit weak, I can be tougher there. A bit more aggressive.
