It is Ernest Hemingway's novel "The Old Man and the Sea" that, together with a note explaining the delay, as well as a check to cover the cost of purchasing a newer edition, has been submitted, writes the library on
"I was born and raised in Greenwich, my family moved to Upstate New York in 1980. I recently went through some old boxes and found this book. I've read it and am now returning it", it says, among other things, on the note.
Receiving an overdue book with a thoughtful greeting was a lovely surprise, says the library's CEO Joe Williams in a comment to the newspaper Greenwich Time and adds:
Luckily for the borrower, we abolished our policy on overdue fines a few years ago.
