C-leader Anna-Karin Hatt resigns after threats and hate. All party leaders react to the message. ”This is a dark day for Sweden. For Swedish politics and our open society”, writes KD-leader Ebba Busch on X.

Anna-Karin Hatt took over after the then party leader Muharrem Demirok in May. At a press conference, six months later, Hatt announces that she is resigning due to threats and hatred. It has been much worse than she was prepared for and "come too close".

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party) thanks the C leader for her efforts in politics and says that the unforgiving gaping climate that prevails with "hatred and threats must never be tolerated". He says that he himself experiences things all the time.

If you were to read all the disgusting comments on social media, then you would become quite downhearted, so I never read such things, says the Prime Minister to TT.

The Moderate Party leader Magdalena Andersson says that she is saddened by the news and that she had looked forward to continued cooperation.

"No one in Sweden should have to leave their assignment due to hatred and threats. It is a failure for our society", she writes in a comment to TT.

SD leader Jimmie Åkesson writes on X that he himself can relate to the experiences of hatred, and that he has respect for Hatt's decision. "Anna-Karin Hatt has landed in her conclusion, we should all have respect for it, even if the decision is made for a very regrettable reason", he writes.

"Terrible"

V leader Nooshi Dadgostar believes that it is completely unacceptable and "deeply regrets that Anna-Karin has been forced to resign due to this".

"It is deeply disturbing that the threats against Anna-Karin Hatt have reached a level where she no longer feels safe in her own home", writes Dadgostar on X.

The Green party's spokesperson also comments on the resignation on X.

"That Hatt feels forced to resign due to hatred and threats is terrible", writes Daniel Helldén.

The Green party's other spokesperson Amanda Lind calls it an extremely sad message.

"This is not worthy of our democracy”, she continues.

Simona Mohamsson (The Liberals) thanks Anna-Karin Hatt for her commitment and writes:

"Threats and hatred must never silence people who engage for a better society".
