Half of the assistance companies that are supposed to help the disabled are used by criminals, according to a survey by the police.

The survey was conducted on 166 limited liability companies. Of the 106 that have received permits in the past four years, 70 percent are estimated to be used in crime by the company's management.

The police say that the companies also exist primarily for use in crime, but cannot go into exactly how they arrive at that conclusion, instead referring to intelligence that points in that direction. And since some probably go under the police radar, the number is greatly inflated.

It has long been known that crime occurs within the industry.

"But now we know that the scale is far greater than we previously thought. And also that the crime is largely organized by those who run companies in the industry," says Jens Ahlstrand, head of the intelligence unit in Police Region West, where the report was written.
