The injury situation is starting to improve for Premier League leaders Arsenal. The hope is that Norwegian captain Martin Ødegaard, who has been out since early October, will be able to be in the squad for Wednesday's Champions League match at home to Bayern Munich.
"He was close to playing last time (4-1 against Tottenham on Sunday). So we hope he can be in the squad tomorrow," said Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta at Tuesday's press conference.
Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, however, will not play. The 27-year-old missed the most recent national team training camp with Sweden due to a thigh injury, and is not yet fully ready for the match.
But he and fellow striker Kai Havertz, who has also been injured, could possibly be available for play on Sunday, when Arsenal face second-placed Chelsea away in the Premier League.
"It looks very promising. In the coming days we will examine both of them to see how they are and whether we can try to get them ready for the weekend, or maybe the game after that," Arteta said.
Both Arsenal and Bayern Munich have started the Champions League game without a scratch, with four straight wins.
