+ The show jumping team will defend their OS gold

The Swedish show jumping team won gold in Tokyo – three years later, the medal will be defended in Paris-OS. The qualification in the equestrian team event begins in Versailles palace park, and the top ten will advance to Friday's final.

Unlike the OS in Japan, Malin Baryard Johnsson (Indiana) will be the reserve in favor of veteran Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (Zuccero), but national team captain Henrik Ankarcrona is counting on world number one Henrik von Eckermann (King Edward) and Peder Fredricson (Catch Me Not) as expected.

Routine is not lacking – the quartet has together made 22 Olympic appearances.

+ Swedes sail for OS medal in Marseille

OS debutants Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler will sail for a medal in the waters outside Marseille in the 49erFX two-woman dinghy event this afternoon. The blue-yellow duo has gone from clarity to clarity during the week as the wind has picked up. Before this afternoon's medal sailing – where double points are at stake – the Swedes are in bronze position. There are seven points up to France in gold position and six points up to the Dutch crew in silver position.

+ Star shooter Ludvig Åberg strikes out

Golfer Ludvig Åberg has had a magical first year as a pro and now makes his OS debut when the men's tournament begins at Le Golf National outside Paris. At 10.11, the 24-year-old from Eslöv struck out in a real crowd-pleaser alongside world number one Scottie Scheffler, USA, and world number three Rory McIlroy, who is competing for Ireland in the OS.

Experienced Alex Norén is Sweden's second men's player in the OS and the 42-year-old was also in Tokyo three years ago. Norén struck out at 09.22.

+ Super sensation Möregårdh plays quarterfinal

"The biggest upset in OS history". That was table tennis legend Jan-Ove Waldner's verdict after Truls Möregårdh yesterday knocked out the Chinese world number one Wang Chuqin in the second round.

With sheer speed, the 22-year-old knocked out Kao Cheng-Jui, Taiwan, during Wednesday evening and tonight awaits a quarterfinal against Omar Assar, Egypt.

+ Superstar chases career's sixth OS gold

Gymnastics queen Simone Biles and the USA took home the women's team event in dominant style and now awaits the individual all-around final.

Superstar Biles is a strong favorite for her sixth OS gold and has later in the OS a chance at three more golds as she is clear for the apparatus finals in beam, vault, and floor exercise. The American took her four previous golds in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
