+ Duplantis back in the record arena

Armand Duplantis is the biggest star of the indoor World Championships. And Toruń has a special place in the pole vault giant's heart. It was there that he set his first world record, 6.17 meters, on February 8, 2020. In Uppsala on Thursday, he set his 15th world record, 6.31 m. Of course, he wants to raise it another centimeter at the World Championships.

+ Will Bergqvist's world record be broken?

In the women's high jump, the outdoor world record holder, Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh, will face the reigning world champion (both indoors and outdoors), Australian Nicola Olyslagers. Plus four other two-meter jumpers. It is worth noting that Swedish national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist's indoor record, 2.08 from 2006, still stands.

+ The long jump competition

The reigning Olympic champion, Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou, had a major challenger last year in 21-year-old Italian Mattia Furlani, who won the World Championships both indoors and outdoors. They are challenged primarily by Bulgarian Bozjidar Sarabojukov, who comes to the World Championships with a world-leading 8.45 meters.

+ Where are the Norwegians?

Last year, Jakob Ingebrigtsen won two gold medals at the indoor World Championships in Nanjing, in the 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters. At the moment, he can barely walk. The Norwegian recently had surgery on a hamstring that has bothered him for several years, and it is unclear when he will be back on the track. Karsten Warholm, world record holder in the 400-meter hurdles, will not compete this winter. After missing out on a medal at the World Championships last fall (fifth), Warholm chose instead to train for the outdoor season.

+ Swedish medal chances in shot put

Apart from Duplantis in the pole vault, it is perhaps in the shot put that Sweden has the greatest chance of a medal. Axelina Johansson set a year's best when she won the American college championships last week with 19.55 meters, which makes her fifth in the world this year. Fanny Roos is sixth with 19.45 meters. Ahead of them are four athletes who have thrown over 20 meters, but on a good day the Swedes should be able to compete for a medal.
