What: Sweden–Georgia, in the Men's European Handball Championship.
Where: Malmö Arena.
When: Monday at 8:30 p.m.
TV/radio: Viaplay/Viaplay Sport and P4 Radiosporten.
A look at the start: Sweden got off to a brilliant start to their European Championship journey when they defeated the Netherlands 36–31 on Saturday. After Georgia on Monday, the first group stage concludes with a match against Croatia on Wednesday. The top two advance to the intermediate round in Malmö, where points from matches between them are carried over.
Goalkeeper selection: A big question before the premiere was who would guard the goal. The answer was 36-year-old Mikael Appelgren, who made ten saves (a 36 percent save rate). Team captain Andreas Palicka, 39, however, came on early in the second half and played for a little over fifteen minutes, but recorded only one save. Fabian Norsten, 25, remained on the bench.
The opposition: Sweden's men have only faced Georgia once before - in the European Championship group stage in Germany two years ago, they won 42-26. Despite those numbers, it's no time to underestimate the Georgians. When they lost to Croatia in Saturday's opening match (29-32), the deficit was only one goal with a couple of minutes left to play.
