As an opposition politician, Høegh-Dam has made herself known for her advocacy for an independent Greenland and her sharp criticism of Denmark as a "colonial power."
Members of her party Naleraq have repeatedly expressed a desire that Greenland should hold bilateral talks with the United States, without Denmark.
Toned down criticism
But when Høegh-Dam meets the press the day after the historic meeting at the White House, her criticism appears somewhat toned down.
For us, it was a great step forward that Vivian Motzfeldt (Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Greenlandic government) participated in the meeting.
The delegation from the United States arriving in Copenhagen on Friday consists of senators and members of the House of Representatives from both the Democratic and Republican parties, but has been described by experts as weak in its ability to put real pressure on the US president.
Meeting at lunchtime
Høegh-Dam also does not believe they will "accomplish much" during the meeting held in Copenhagen at lunchtime, but hopes to gain insight into how the discussions about Greenland are going in political circles in the United States.
It's not the first time an American delegation has met with Danish politicians, but it's the first time Greenland's Foreign Affairs Committee has been invited. So that's also a big step forward for us. We also want to get as much information as possible.
