Simona Mohamsson, The Liberals' newly elected party leader and newly appointed integration minister, calls Sweden "an extremely country, in a good way". By that, she means that Sweden as a liberal democracy stands out in terms of values.
For people who become part of our society, it gets a little difficult to navigate that map, she says to DN.
Already in 2023, the government stated a goal to test the values of immigrants.
Now, the research network World Values Survey, WVS, is tasked with investigating differences in values between those who have come to Sweden and those who are born here.
This fall, WVS will interview around 3,000 people. Half will have a completely Swedish background and half will have a non-Western background. Among other things, the view on equality will be examined.
The result may become guiding for integration policy. It can, for example, be about changes within education and other integration efforts.
Mohamsson emphasizes that it's not about getting anyone to change their opinion.
It's about the values we have in Sweden being upheld. It becomes strange if we say that some people don't need to have these values, she says.
