The Payment Authority was established in January 2024 to chase incorrect benefit payments. The plan was also that it would handle payments of hundreds of billions from a number of other authorities – but now the government is reversing.

This after criticism from several authorities that would be covered by the system, intended to be put into operation no later than January 1, 2027, to more easily detect double or incorrect payments.

The payment authority's operations will instead focus on the core task, the government states in a press release.

”The authority's work against incorrect payments will also be extended to more payments from both the state and municipalities”, they write.

So far, the authority has detected incorrect payments that have led to over 70 million kronor in repayment claims.
