According to Minister of Labor Johan Britz (L), too few unemployed people are currently referred to training courses.
The government is therefore tightening the requirements for the Swedish Public Employment Service by introducing what is called a training obligation.
The obligation covers people who have been unemployed for a long time and who participate in the authority's job and development guarantee.
This becomes an obligation for the authority, a right for those outside the labor market, but also a duty in the sense that you must do what the Public Employment Service says you should do, says Johan Britz.
According to Johan Britz, around 35,000 people in the job and development guarantee lack upper secondary education.
The change will enter into force on March 1, 2027.
Corrected: In a previous version, there was an incorrect figure for how many people in the job and development guarantee lack a high school education.
