It is not possible to establish any crime in connection with a boy drowning during Gothia Cup last year, according to the prosecutor. Therefore, the preliminary investigation after the death is being dropped.

The British boy, who was in his late teens, was in Sweden to play the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg. On July 19, he died in connection with a visit to the swimming pool in Alingsås.

According to the prosecutor, no crime was behind the incident.

"My assessment is that there have been several concurrent unfortunate circumstances that have led to the accident," says public prosecutor Carolyn Westeröd in a press release.

An external investigation has previously directed criticism at Alingsås municipality, since there were only two lifeguards on site when the accident occurred.
