The initiative is expected to cost 40 million kronor in 2026 and thereafter 80 million kronor per year, reports Göteborgs-Posten.
Jonas Attenius (S), chairman of the municipal board in Göteborg, calls the change "long-awaited".
"More preschool hours means relief, safer routines for the children and a more sustainable daily life for the family. The small child gets the opportunity to bond with their parent, while the sibling gets to continue to develop, meet friends and keep their routines in preschool", says Attenius in a press release.
The initiatives in the budget are financed, among other things, through a planned dividend of 650 million kronor from the municipal companies.
