Google's message comes after an American judge recently ruled that the company had a monopoly in digital advertising, contrary to competition legislation.
Google has said for several years that they will remove cookies that track what users do online from their Chrome web browser. However, the work on the "sandbox" (privacy sandbox) that would replace the cookies was paused in a complete turnaround from Google's side a year ago. The cookies remained.
Now Google announces that the "sandbox" is being dismantled further. In a blog post, it says that "we have decided to keep our current approach to offering third-party cookies in Chrome and will not offer any separate appeal regarding the cookies".
Google instead believes that their existing options for users are sufficient.
